Preserving Corporate Image

{By John Smith, Partner at Kellen James}

When you are recruiting for your organization you probably think about how candidates you are hotly pursuing perceive your company. But, do you ever consider how the rest of the candidates see your company?

Step back for a moment and think about those candidates you’ve just released from consideration. What was their experience like? Did you move them quickly and efficiently through the process and provide them timely feedback?

You want each candidate to walk away from your process with their dignity and the desire to throw their hat into the ring should another opportunity present itself.

Many good organizations miss out on stellar candidates due to poor interview/hiring practices.  Lack of communication is the main reason. It is not uncommon for a candidate to enter the process, be met with initial positive interest on the employers’ part and then languish for weeks (sometimes even months) as they slog through the interview process. In many instances they receive no further communication at all. Consequently, Top candidates are removing themselves from the process or rejecting valid offers in favor of other opportunities.

The smartest move you can make when recruiting is preserving your Corporate Image. Be mindful of the message your actions send to candidates. You should treat every candidate with dignity and respect. You want the experience to be a positive one. You want to attract people to your organization, not drive them away. Creating a positive candidate experience costs you nothing. Creating a negative candidate experience is extremely expensive.
